The Hobbs Camp 768 welcomes Mrs. Barbara G. Marthal to Athens this month. In her book, Fighting for Freedom, Barbara G. Marthal uses primary source documents to re-construct the story of a young Confederate soldier and his servant who join the Tennessee militia in 1861 and become a part of the Tennessee Brigade, Army of Northern Virginia. The story tells why they fought, how the servant gets his freedom and what happens to them after the war.
